About This Portal

ParticipateSteven’s Portal has been energized by people from around the globe who are in sympathy with its humanitarian and earth-friendly purposes.

This website was successfully revived after being dormant for several months. It has come full circle since its origins in August 2002, when it began as a personal homepage. It came into existence long before the era of blogging. Most likely, it will never resemble a blog, because it has never been about blogging, but rather about linking. Nevertheless, a "forum" section may be coming, and perhaps a podcast of some sort — feel free to e-mail Steven to let him know what you think. New content is coming.

You may know me from Pumpkin Hollow Farm (www.pumpkinhollow.org) where I served on resident staff from 1996 to 2004. I'm a self-employed web developer, notary and business consultant. My office is at 24 Main Street, Millerton, New York.

As of November 2011, we are receiving free nonprofit web hosting services from Dreamhost (www.dreamhost.com). Thank you to the kind account reps and executives at Dreamhost, a truly enlightened company.

Many thanks to those who helped in the early days of this project. Your support is well remembered: web developer Sorat Tungkasiri of Princeton, New Jersey, made a generous contribution of technical assistance; sample color schemes and design recommendations were provided by Renata Rubim of Porto Alegre, Brazil; usability advice came from Gwendolyn Reece of the American University Library in Washington, D.C.

Further thanks go to Mark Hahn who donated his consulting services. Now retired from the Veterans Administration in Albany, New York, Mark advises health care agencies and teaches classes on the principles of effective grant writing.

Joe Bridge helped with paperwork and offered inspiration musically by sharing his talent as a singer, songwriter and guitarist. Best wishes to Joe and his wife Lisa on their current venture as they develop their organic farm in Washington State. Charlie Elkind (www.charliescards.com) assisted with the selection of clip art images.

Lioba Logan has made many good link suggestions. Thank you, Lioba, for staying in touch.

Santoshi Tuschak deserves special mention for her proofreading and editing assistance as well as her moral support and encouragement!

Many thanks to Albert Amao, Bill Stimson (www.billstimson.com) and Douglas Wilson for contributing writings that will be posted at some point in the future.

Appreciation is extended to Axandra-Voget Selbach Enterprises, GmbH for the complimentary use of their Arelis software, ClipArt.com for graphics and images, and Positronic Design and GoDaddy.Com for reliable web hosting services. Page loads are tallied in real time by StatCounter.com.

Also thanks to Infacta Ltd. (www.infacta.com) for the use of their Group Mail marketing software. The kind folks at Hform.com Secure Forms (www.hform.com) provided data handling services from their offices in Sweden for the subscribe, comments and link submission forms. Animated images were generated with excellent, easy-to-use graphics utilities published by Alchemy Mindworks (www.alchemymindworks.com).

DonateJustGive.org, which is partnered with more than a million charities, and Groundspring.org, a nonprofit organization associated with the Tides Foundation, have been helpful in processing online donations safely and securely.

My special heartfelt gratitude for everyone who has supported this effort in many ways over the past eight years — many individuals who provided link suggestions and words of encouragement, while some also gave financial support. When first established, this portal found its initial audience among hundreds of visitors to Pumpkin Hollow Farm who were interested in meditation, yoga, Therapeutic Touch and holistic healing, spirituality, comparative religion, and similar topics and activities. Over the years, the audience has grown to become much more diverse with the continued expansion of the Internet. Supporters and helpers have also included: Amanda Schiffman, Elizabeth Milkov, Kathy Duhon, Conrad Putzig, Lioba Logan, Vicki Woodyard, Joy Mills, Carol Cannon, Cheri Brady, Siji Kompanal, Charlene Vanderslice, Jennifer Bouchard, Nelda Samarel, Vince Vitale, Doug Wallace, Ann Folger, Eeva Zimmerman, Elisa DeStefano, Ritu Linhart, LeLy Hayslip, Dorica Nevin, Peter Conlin, Sue Conlin, Margaret Stolz, Tiffany Brown, Salomon Gill, Albert Amao, Nancy Griffis, Paul Kittredge, John Milisenda, Viviane Hays, Stephanie Grey, Katrin Bergstrome, Ted Lester, Ruth Adams, Fernando de Torrijos, Mary Fran Raynor, Riff Masteroff, Truth Collins, Ruth Rivera, Pat Moffitt Cook, Vicente Hao Chin, Valerie Cates, Jason Mark, Shashi Tharoor, Deborah Shields, Alayne O’Reilly, Larry Wolf, Beth Robinson, Cia Ricco, Mary Leue, Rick Jarow, Rod MacIver, Jeff Volk, Jorge Alfano, Ed Tick, Cathy Jensen, Reba Perez, Rich Watson, Luisa Porrata, Patricia Earnest, Joe Rautenstrauch, Jorge Castilla, Ana Monjaras, Sonya Raymond, Janice Krish, Dorothy Woods Smith, Patricia Hunt-Perry, Heidi Spitzer, Alex Villafranca, Jeanne Abatemarco, Charlotte Rodgers, Georgeann Sgrosso, Judy Anderson, Betsy Ungvarsky, Jim Caffrey, George Devine, Bill Stimson, Patricia Abrams, Barbara Keller, Joan McDougall, Laraine Lippe, Vicky Biondi, Amy Warcup, Jeanne O'Sullivan, Robert Corrington, Santoshi Tuschak, Dashiell Smith, Beth Rosenthal, Jeffrey Zeth, Ana Margarida Esteves and Doug Martin.

And finally, sincere thanks to each and every person who has taken a moment to visit.
